It should post to bios, if there is no OS installed, if there is an OS installed, it should boot and work normally except not have access to the cdrom drive.
you may want to go into BIOS and see if you can remove the CD drive from the boot process altogether. i can't recall the configuration off hand, but i have had issues with bad cd drives causing pc's to not boot. once the cd drive was removed and taken out of the boot sequence, it was fine.
