I have a dell laptop that wont come on. When I press the power button I get my green lights, but I dont hear the hard drive start to spin, no fans kick on, its just as quiet as can be. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Is this just from battery, or is it the same from the mains electric?

pull the plug, remove the battery, hold the power button in for 30 seconds, plug it in (leave battery out) and try and boot up. Anything?

check the power supply with a voltmeter set to DC volts. The output is probably written on the power supply itself...

If that checks out ok, then you may have an open circuit somewhere. If it were mine and the warranty was up, I would take it apart and re-seat everything.

Thanks macten88, I took apart and put it back together and it is now working fine.

Thanks everyone for your help

Hint for the future: A good place to start with that sort of issue in a Dell laptop is to reseat the memory. Also, I have had experiences where one of the RAM chips was bad and did the same thing. Glad to hear you got it going.
