I bought a dell dimension 8200 from a garage sale
I think they were made 4 years ago
I pluged it in and it does not work
I opend the inside and pluged it in and the fans are not working
The computer does not go on

As soon as I plug it in and turn it on the monitor senses that the computer is there
but the monitor does not go on

I am spending some time here to figure out the problem

How do the professionals repair computers
Is there a way to test each part in the computer
Do i have to remove each part and replace it with a working part to know where the broken part is

That cable is just an AUDIO connector, that is not necessary any more, due to the fact that there is a PCI Soundcard...

just tuck it away somewhere where it does not get into the way of things, it will not be a problem if it is not hooked up to anything...

what I am wondering though is, that you have two sound cards installed...

until you get the mainboard to post, I would remove BOTH from the case... then also remove the Video card and reinsert it (this will make sure that it has GOOD contact, you could also use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts of the card before inserting it again)...

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

Hi BadBigBen
Thanks for your reply.
You say
until you get the mainboard to post, I would remove BOTH from the case..
This part of your sentence I dont understand can you explain please
Thanks

Go back up to my post of 2 Nov 09 8:21, you are supposed to remove everything unnecessary on the board and remove the board from the case to allow for absolutely the minimum of items to be causing the problem.

When you have it down to processor/processor heatsink and fan, memory, power supply and video card (if NOT on-board video) and motherboard out of the case, I'd first pull out all the memory and see if it gives you the "I don't have any RAM" beep codes.

That at least would prove that your motherboard is aware of its situation.

Hi Folks
I removed all the memory and all the cards.
I pluged it in and its the same story.
The heat sink fan turns a few times then it stops
I cleaned the contacts with an eraser
I placed them back and its the same story.

goombawaho
I will have to try doing this another day
I am not sure if I can manage
Go back up to my post of 2 Nov 09 8:21,

Thanks All
