I have a Dell Dimension XPS R450 machine. I reinstalled this machine with Win 98se. It works fine at my place, no problems at all but when I take it to my customers place for the delivery sometime it boots sometime it doesnt start at all stating no signal on monitor. I have to bring it back a number of times but when I plug it at my place it works fine. At one point even the modem refused to dial in to ISP stating no dial tone. But when I took it home it was dialing fine.I am sure there is some electrical problem at my customers place but I am unable to prove it.Please suggest some solution for me to get out of this problem quick. Thanks

At the customer's place do you add any hardware/peripherals to the system? It may be a pain but take your own keyboard, mouse, power cables and monitor and set them up there, if the PC works then it has got to be something at their end. If you've got a UPS then take that along and see if that helps. An electrial socket tester is a piece of kit I always keep to had it help to rule out certain power problems.

Regards,

I agree with Gavin...it has to be a power problem at the customers place.

By all means, take a UPS with you and try different circuits at his house. Make sure you're not plugging into a switched outlet. Invite the customer to your place to show 'em that it works when provided with good clean power.

Just for the sake of argument, these things don't have the best power supplies in the industry and poor power can sure show up as a problem. It's not my intention to place blame on the psu...just to point out that the wrong combination of things can cause a problem like this. A different computer might work just fine at the customers home but still doesn't make his power good.

As an aside, I just got an XPS R450 up and running for a friend. It had many user induced problems but proved to be a very solid machine once it was sorted out.

This Time I took the machine to the customer place. Used a Brand new keyboard ,mouse, power supply cable it started fine then when I wanted to reboot the machine it did not reboot at all. After that I took the machine home and connected the machine to the power outlet it worked fine no problems at all.Rebooted the machine 10 time and not even once it had a hickup,I really got so sick of this situation that I had to give her a another dell P 3 system. Just to get out of this situation.

I'm sorry to hear that...

The XPS R450 is a solid machine. Great case design, more than adequate power supply, and well thought out design.

Too bad you had to take a whippin'. I still think your customer has power problems at home and you'll get more calls (someone will) as the situation deteriorates.

You can work on my rigs anytime...good job taking care of your customer.

But if she has a power problem then how come the machine was working fine before and not now.

Hi,

If they have a problem with power, beit surges; brownouts these could easily affect the operating system. Do you have a workshop your customer can visit? If so try to get them in to see their system running smoothly and get them to 'play' with for an hour or so. If it then goes wrong when they return it to their home they should see the problem relates to their enviroment.
