Anyone have suggestions on getting a 600m notebook to run faster? I've used TuneUp Utilites 2004 to clean up the HD and the registry as well as defrag the drive and the registry. The computer is really bad on our network but outside of the network it runs 5 times slower than when I bought it 1yr ago. Config: 1.6PM, 512MB PC2700, 32MD ATI 9000, 30GB HD, 1350 WLAN, over 50 apps installed including large suites; MS Office and VS Enterprise. I can post my running processes if necessary. Usually only Outlook, VB 6.0, Word, are running at the same time. Not enough RAM, or can I run a software optimization?

Thanks

not to sound too scarcastic but the 50 apps on 30gigs could be a part of the problem

how much free space do you have?

Yeah, I know it's alot but I think I will always need all of them for some reason. There is 10GB of the 30 free, I am also using 1.5GB for the pagefile.

With 50 apps installed you're probably running into a lot of programs starting up with Windows when booting the computer. Have you tried 'msconfig' to remove extra programs from start-up?

Yep, removed anything I didn't want to run at startup. Right now I have 50+ process running eventhough there are only 13 programs that load at start. I think my usage at work is too intensive for this model. I'll try another 512MB of RAM to see if it helps, but I've read more on the Dell 600m and found the behavior I'm experencing is common when running large software suites.

Thanks for the help.
