I am new to EDI (and EDIFACT). Working with a customer who is receiving DELFORs that start like this:

UNB~UNOA@2~XXX@ZZ~XXX@ZZ~020623@1015~55~~XXXXXXX*
...
...
...
UNH~550001~DELFOR@D@97A@UN*
BGM~241@@@PS~27~5*
DTM~137@20020623@102*
DTM~158@20020623@102*
DTM~159@20021109@102*

I am not sure what the "..." lines are and can't seem to find reference to such in my docs. Any help?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

Are you sure that this is the raw edi data that they are receiving, or is it the output from a translation report? The reason I'm asking is that it looks exactly like examples that you would see in an EDIFACT guide, in which the documentation uses the "..." to separate the segment groups or as "put your segments here". The raw EDI data should look like:

UNB~UNOA@2~XXX@ZZ~XXX@ZZ~020623@1015~55~~XXXXXXX*
UNH~550001~DELFOR@D@97A@UN*
BGM~241@@@PS~27~5*
DTM~137@20020623@102*
DTM~158@20020623@102*
DTM~159@20021109@102*

If your partner is actually sending these as EDI data, then perhaps they are interpreting the documentation a little too exactly. For example, my EDIFACT guide shows the structure of the DELFOR message as:

. Message header
.
UNH...
BGM...
.....
.....
.
. Message detail
.
LIN...
QTY...
.....
.....
.
. Message trailer
.
CNT...
UNT...

Hope this helps.

Thanks - I was thinking the same thing. The trading partner in this case is GM, so I *hope* they have the stuff figured out. I am getting this raw data by calling my customer and asking her to send it to me. She is retrieving it with Trusted Link and may be giving me something that has been through a form import - I will check again.

Thanks for your help...
