morning all, I have to delete about 10,000 stations from our PBX. typically I would load up a spreadsheet that has all the extensions I want to remove and then open ASA and use the Import Data option, then use the Remove command to see a grid pop up and copy the extensions over to the grid and then hit execute.

but SMGR is also in the mix.

in your opinion, which is more effective? I would prefer to use ASA since I know the CM syncs every hour or every other hour. but I know that SMGR also has the option of deleting stations.

what I don't like about SMGR is that in order to delete via SMGR there are many steps.

how have you performed bulk removals? bcos I know the message waiting lamp also impacts removals, so that's an issue as well.

I just wrote up some procedures on this...
It depends how the phones were built.

If you built Users in System Manager for all your phones, even the legacy H.323, digital, and analog, then you MUST remove the User in order to clean every up correctly. Yes, you could delete stations in CM via ASA but that would leave the User information in SMGR and make things very difficult to clean up.

But if you don't have Users then you are free to delete in SMGR under Communication Manager / Endpoints / Manage Endpoints or directly in CM via ASA.

I like setting the SMGR Usage Options for CM to automatically clear out all the problems (Bridged Extensions, Intra-switch CDR, etc.) to make things a little easier.

You can also use the Bulk User Import to delete bunches at a time. It may not be so easy to set up a spreadsheet with all the information but it is possible. I don't use it much but it does work.

thank you sir.

clever name btw, 001. sounds like you hail from Europe somewhere...
