Deleting old archive logs and control file

We currently have a cron job to delete archive logs over 7 days old. How do I update the control file so that the information for the deleted logs are removed and only the info for the logs not yet deleted remain ?

Archive log files do not appear in control files...Only the on-line redo log files appear in control files. So, archive log files are not an issue insofar as control files are concerned.

This is what I got from the Oracle documentation: The V$ARCHIVED_LOG view shows archived log information from the control file. And when I query this I get every archive log file listed.

If, in fact, the control files list the names of the archived log files, they differ from the other database files in that they are neither checkpointed as with the other database files nor are they necessary to be on disk to start the instance. Therefore, your removing the archived log files does not negatively impact the instance or database unless you are trying to recover the database. If you are trying to do a RECOVER, and if the recovery needs a missing archived log file, then the recover process prompts for the missing file, allowing you to restore the file to the default location, or allowing you to specify an alternate location to find the missing archived log file.
