I have a 950's and 957's in our company and the Enterprise Server for Exchange. Why when we delete a message on the handheld that is doesn't delete it in Outlook as well? I have the option on the handheld set to delete on both desktop and handheld. Is this a bug in the software?

Thanks
Mike

Do you automatically synchronise when you cradle your device? To check - from your Desktop manager, open up Intellisync, click Auto Start and check if reconcile email is checked.
Do you synchronise manually? To check - from your Desktop manager, open up Intellisync and check if reconcile email is checked before you click synchronise now.
If you are happy that you synchronising email successfully - from your Desktop manager, open up Intellisync, click Configure Email... and make sure Folder content synchronisation is set to Synchronise moves and deletes.
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that would explain why deletions are not being synchronised.

Hi Tony

I guess I thought I could do wireless syncs for deletes from the Handheld to the desktop. Apparently the Blackberry cannot do this. You would think if you add and delete appointments wirelessly why can't you delete a message on the blackberry and have it delete in outlook as well?

Mike

Try GoodLink software ( This software runs on RIM 950's and RIM 957's and everything is wireless (including e-mail moves and deletes). There is no need to install any desktop software (Intellisync) at all. The GoodLink software also has a built in ability to view attachments (which BlackBerry did not have when we were using it). I have 240 GoodLink users at my company. They all prefer using GoodLink over BlackBerry.

beckas

Thanks for the info! I didn't know that other software existed for the BlackBerry's. Only problem is we sunk a ton of money in on Blackberry Enterprise edition already. I will show this to my supervsior though.

Thanks
Mike

Is that update for 3.6 free?

Thanks
Mike

requirment to wireless reconcil.

Blackberry Enterprise server 3.6
Desktop Software 3.6

and most importantly, upgrade the blackberry OS to 2.6

the last two item are free to download. at the blackberry, click the mail icon and go to option and make sure delete on is mailbox and handheld. and click save.

mike,

what is the cost of Goodlink ??
so none of the blackberry products allow for viewing attachments ??

that would be a separate purchase ??

IS there a "Color" version ??

Is there a difference w/ blackberry vs. a compaq ipaq ??

The GoodLink service plan is similar in price to that of the BlackBerry service plan. The GoodLink product runs on RIM 950s, RIM 957s, and G100s. You can buy the GoodLink product through Good Technology ( or through Cingular. You should give it a try. Everyone at my company loves it.

I have not used BlackBerry for about a year and a half now but as far as I am aware, you must purchase separate software for viewing attachments on the BlackBerry. The problem that I had found with this is that in order to install the attachment viewing software, you would have to back up the BlackBerry device, wipe the device clean, add the attachment viewing software, and re-load the data on the device. I found that this was a bit too time consuming.

Not with GoodLink. I believe so with BlackBerry.

IS there a "Color" version ??

Not that I am aware of.

I'm not familiar with the compaq ipaq so I'll let someone else answer this question for you.

And something worth mentioning again.....the GoodLink product does not require ANY desktop software so it is much faster and easier to install which makes it a much more enterprise friendly solution than BlackBerry.

beckas,

so we can buy the blackberry/G100 from cingular or good
and use them ?

I assume Good only makes the G100 ?

The "Goodlink" is just the software piece ??

What does the G100 not do ?? Is there an option to browse
the internet ??

We just need to have a product forward our email from MS Exchange 2000 w/out the need to sync w/ a cradle.

Thanks for your response

Just so we're on the same page, BlackBerry is software. A RIM 957 or a RIM 950 is a piece of hardware that BlackBerry and GoodLink software can run on. You can buy RIM 957's, RIM 950's, and G100's from Good or Cingular. You can even run GoodLink on a RIM 957 that previously ran BlackBerry (kind of like changing an OS on a computer).

I assume Good only makes the G100 ? Yes. The G100 was designed by Good Technology. We like it better than the RIM 950 or RIM 957. The keyboard is much easier to type on, the display has better resolution, and we've found that the antennae has better coverage.

The "Goodlink" is just the software piece ?? Yes.

What does the G100 not do ?? It does everything that a RIM 950 or RIM 957 does.

Is there an option to browse the internet ?? I do not believe that you can browse the internet. Quite honestly, it's not all it's wrapped up to be. Browsing the internet with a RIM 950 or a RIM 957 is SOOOOOO slow (even with all of the graphics stipped off of the web pages). I believe the baud rate is 9k. We tried an internet service when we were using BlackBerry software (we had to purchase that separately from a company other than RIM) and it was not worth the $10.00 extra a month to use the service. It is very frustrating browsing the internet on these devices.

What's cool about GoodLink - Good Technology makes another product (GoodInfo server) that you can use to design custom applications for your GoodLink devices. With GoodInfo server, you can query just about any application via the GoodLink device to obtain information (such as looking up directions, obtaining stock quotes, locating the nearest Starbucks...whatever). It's very cool!

We just need to have a product forward our email from MS Exchange 2000 w/out the need to sync w/ a cradle. GoodLink can do that for you. As far as BlackBerry goes, it's been over a year since my company switched to GoodLink so I am not up on the latest BlackBerry technology.

pctekk - I just found out that starting next month, the GoodLink software will be available for a Handspring Treo 600. I saw the actual product yesterday.....it's beautiful. So the GoodLink product will be avalable on a phone combo unit that has color and has internet browsing capability. The wireless modem on the Handspring Treo is much faster than that of a RIM 957 so that will probably be a better option if you have the need to browse the internet.

Actually you can open attachements with the new version of Blackberry Enterprise Server.

My company tried Goodlink but had a varaiety of issues. There hardware was well liked, but performance was not.

Well nth22, that is interesting that your company had problems with GoodLink. I found my company's experience to be quite the opposite. We've had very few problems with GoodLink and quite a few problems with BlackBerry. With BlackBerry, we had problems with the BES server reliability (and when the BES server was down, it did not queue the e-mail to send when it was back up so the BlackBerry users wouldn't get all of their e-mail), problems with BlackBerry encryption keys going bad (which resulted having to cradle the handhelds directly to the server. This was a nightmare for people that were in our regional offices), problems with the Intellisync software becoming "corrupted", and we found that calling RIM technical support was not always a pleasant experience. It was also a pain training BlackBerry users on how the Intellisync software works (because there's plenty of areas of confusion with Intellisync). It's been a while since we've used BlackBerry though so maybe RIM has worked out some of those issues. We haven't had any of these problems with GoodLink and I we've been using the GoodLink product since September 2001. The GoodLink technical support team is awesome and it has been a dream to work with them! I know that Cingular offers technical support for GoodLink as well but I don't know how good the technical support is with Cingular.
