My company is using the Norstar startalk Flash system. All of the instructions I have indicate that this is from the mid 90's. I have been asked to remove one of the extensions. We're not using CCR but rather we're set up so that you can dial the last name of the person in a directory. I have managed to disable the persons name in the directory and deleted their mailbox, but external callers can still directly dial the extension number. How in the world do I change this?

You would need to change the extension in the system itself. It's in the telephony programming, not voicemail, under System Programming, Change DN's. Enter the old extension, then enter the extension you want to change it to.

I don't think I want to change it so much as disable it. We've been having problems with that particular extension, and I was asked to make it so it doesn't connect to a phone line. Is there a way to turn off the ability to dial that extension from the menu? Thanks.

I tried unplugging the phone and I can still dial the extension. I get a message that tells me that the user is unavailable after 3 rings. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Go into sys programming>next to maintenence and show>next to port/dn status and show> there should be a soft key with the DN choice, type the DN you want to disable and under the state soft key is the option to disable that port.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than to have a frontal lobotomy

Hey bslzq4, are you sure you deleted the mailbox for that set? After you unplgged it then dialed it you say after three rings you get the message , "user is unavailable" were you prompted to leave a message? If the MB was deleted you should have dropped into the Gen Delivery MB.
Delete MB, remove FNA to VMDN from Capibilities and unplug the phone. If you dial that EXT from another set you will get "not in service" in the display. If you dial that EXT in the AA you will hear 1 ring followed by "you have dialed in invaid extension." and have a nice day.

Thank you all so much, I finally figured it out. Couldn't have done it without the help.
