the user before i started using this office computer apparantly installed a program called "netzip". every time i try to download anything online, it prompts to purchase, and then won't let me download without it.i think it is some kind of virus scanner.
the administrator said to simply delete it and i tried several times but no avail.
i would love to delete it or simply by-pass it somehow.

thanks in advance...
Sounds like a neat program. Where can I get a copy?
If you want to remove it you may have to figure out how it works. When you delete it, does it diasappear and then reappear later?

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY...IT DISAPPEARS, BUT WHEN I TRY TO DOWNLOAD SOMETHING AGAIN, IT REAPPEARS IN THE PROGRAMS FILE....
I HAVE SOME ONLINE FORMS THAT I PERIODICALLY HAVE TO DOWNLOAD
FROM THE FCC, EMERGENCY MANAGMENT ETC. AND NOT BEING ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE FORM MAKES IT DIFFICULT....
I WILL TRY TO FIND OUT WHERE YOU CAN GET ONE AND LET YOU KNOW...
(YOU CAN HAVE MINE FOR SURE....LOL)
Netzip is similar to Winzip. It is a program that monitors your downloads and unzips them if they are in that format. Have you tried to remove it through the add/remove program feature in the control panel? Have you tried the uninstall feature that came with the program? I had that program on my computer at one time and had no trouble uninstalling it.
Just a thought.

yes...i tried the control panel...it says "error detected....uninstallation cancelled"...
also tried the uninstall feature that came with the program...it seems to work, but then
when i try to download something again, there it pops up again.....only thing differant is now, i cant download anything it says..."memory destination not valid"....
simple things like wallpapers etc. wont download....
its driving me bananas......

thanks again
ridge,
Try going into the registry and searching for any entries noting 'netzip'. I can assure you that if you delete the program using either the windows un-install or the un-install that came with 'netzip', there is most likely an entry somewhere in the Registry not being removed by the uninstalls that is either reactivating Netzip, or interfering with downloading operations. You will have to delete the 'netzip' entries in the registry manually to get past this problem. Just be real careful when it says ok to delete the entry - make sure it is just for 'netzip'.
Have you tried booting to the command prompt and manually nuking the thing? This reminds me a little of a security app I wrote. If you try to shut it down it just respawns and keeps on truckin'. If you manage to delete the program file (not an easy task) it magically reappears on the next boot.
Good luck!
if your using win98
open up the system information program
go to tools/system configuration utility
from there u can check all the files that need to be checked to make sure that nasty program cant bother u anymore.

u might also try reassociating zip files
u could also get gozilla and awesome download manager (free at <A HREF=" TARGET="_new">

Why not try reinstalling netzip? You should then be able to do a proper Uninstall, right? I've found that to be true when I deleted files when I should've uninstalled instead. I mean, it can't make it any worse, right?

Besides checking the system configuration utility, you can also check the run and run services keys in the registry.Hk local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\.
