Dear Sirs,
Recently I deleted the Systray.exe file and registry key from my computer that has windows 98 se. The first problem I encountered after deleting this file was that windows would no longer boot and I would recieve a message statting that the win.com file could not be found. After several different atttempts at making a copy of that file and adding it to C:\windows I finally stumbled across a file called setup.exe (while in dos). My first fear was that none of the old programs I had previosuly installed would be recognized and loaded with this reinstalltion. However that was not the case. All of my file are showing up in windows and on my desktop and everything seems to be working fine. The only exception is the files seemed to have been renamed in "lower case" rather than the way some of them were. <<NO PROBLEM However, my share folders that I had on my desktop that go to other computers I have on the "home" network are no longer working. When I view "ENTIRE NETWORK" from Network Neighborhood I get an error message that says "Unable to browse the Network". Am I going to need to reconfigure my box so that it recognizes the network and if so how do I do that? Also, just for grins, if you can tell me exactly wat happened when I found that setup.exe file in dos, If I recall I found it somewhere near or in c:\window\options\cab please do elaborate . I am wondering if I might be better off, now that I got WINDOWS working again, to copy the files I need and reformat my hard rive and reload windows. By the way, on the home network I am using, I have 3 other machines and all of them are using WINDOWS XP. (Just in case that matters when in the process of setting up my machine for home network.)
Thanks for your time,
I am sure your answer will help myself
and others.
