Delete records in a Linked SQL table

I have linked a table (ODBC connection) to my access database.  I created a delete query that depends on criteria from a local access table (null in my local table and not null in the SQL table = record gets deleted in Sql table).  I get an error that Access cannot delete from the Sql table.  How should I handle this task?
