Believe me, i had been running Windows ME for 1 yr. thinking it was ok, because i was too lazy to upg. to windows 2k. ME ALWAYS crashed, it crashes when i try to open pictures or shut-down or multi-task. This is a truely rubbish OS.

I upgraded to XP as soon as it was out. Never looked back (except right at this moment when my machine broke and i had to put ME back on it) ME still crashes all the time. If you want an enjoyable experience from the use of your PC then upg. to XP it is like coming out of the cold and being handed a warm cup of tea.

p.s. i am in no way affilited to microsoft, i just think they got it right and people should be told.

Happy Hunting!

Au contrare my friend. I have been using ME for over 2 years, and although it has had some problems, it has worked most satisfactory for me. It didn't until I maxed memory out. I have 512mb of RAM and that seems to make ME happy. I also make sure that i do a restart or reboot about every 3 days as something in ME has a memory leak and the amount of available memory slowly reduces until it is down to a couple of hundred K. When that happens, ME crashes. As long as I do the occasional restart with the extra RAM, I have few problems.

Thank-you for pointing out the memory leak in ME i was not aware, it never stayed running for that long for me to find this out.

The main problem i find in ME is that when running multiple applications such as WinAmp, IE, Word , Messenger, AOL and VB, (as i do every day) it without fail.. grinds to a halt, everytime. That's my qualm.

I now run XP which will and has run on my machine without reboot for 1month. Running hosts of applications, If XP does crash as it has once, it reloads the taskbar AND system tray....

Thanks for your comments. __________________________________

hi. i may be late but it counts. as you, i have been using me for more than two years and its like u are saying.

I have 3 ME machines. All are always broke, when i get one fixed, another breakes. I also have 1 98, 3 xp, 4 2k, and 1 advanced server. I have no problems with these breaking down. I am slowly but surely getting rid of ME.

Thanks,
James

I have 2 ME, 2 XP home and 2 XP Pro and the ME computers run SETI@HOME only and I have to restart them every few days (5) or it triples time time to process the data. But with XP Pro I had one running the samething now for 45 days non-stop/restart with no problems.

To me ME was a get rich quick scheme from MS. Win98 SE with new cover.

Looking for help check the FAQ's first then do a search then ask. Worked for me.

I love these types of threads, you can feel the tension...

ME is fine for home use, if you're just doing a few simple tasks. XP does seem to be a more stable Microsoft OS in certain respects (but the overhead of all those NT services... ugghhh), but its still a Microsoft OS. No Microsoft OS is going to multitask applications the way most advanced users want, for that you'll want to run Linux. And as much as I like to pimp Linux, no GUI is going to run forever without crashing. A Linux or XP desktop you might reboot once every couple of weeks if you have it setup right, versuses a Linux server which you reboot once a year for maintenance (don't even try to compare MS Server uptime to Linux server uptime, that's a conversation for another thread).

The OS is only as good as the user who takes care of it, and what it is used for. I run ME on my main home PC, been running it fine for about 2 years now. Handles my digital camera quite well. However, I'd never load this on a business computer, most accounting and production packages don't work well with ME.

If your OS is crashing consistently, look at your hardware, or look in the mirror for the problem.

My 2 cents...

Matt J.
