Hi,

I use IE 6.0. I did the following:
Tools | Internet Options | Clear History
Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files
Tools | Internet Options | Delete Cookies

Then I have restarted the browser.
All history URL addresses have disappeared just address staring with "mail" is still present. So when I type into address bar: "mail" the mail:some_email@email.com is displayed.

How to remove complitly remove history - also "mail" addresses?

Thanks,
Grofaty

when typing mail... into the address bar, highlight the first selectable option with your mouse and hold down the delete key to remove all of the entries.

suntsu,
this is not working or I missed out something. Can you explain in more detail?

Thanks,
Grofaty

This script will clear the manually typed URL history for you. just save this code to a text file and give it a VBS extension .

Code:
'==========================================================================
'
' NAME: ClearManuallyTypedURLList.vbs
'
' AUTHOR: Mark D. MacLachlan , The Spider's Parlor
' URL: [URL unfurl="true"]http://www.thespidersparlor.com[/URL]
' DATE : 3/28/2005
'
' COMMENT: Use manually to clear IE Typed URL History
' or set as a logoff script to clear automatically
'==========================================================================
'On Error Resume Next

Set WSHShell = Wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

const HKEY_CURRENT_USER = &H80000001
strComputer = "."
Set oReg=GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & _
strComputer & "\root\default:StdRegProv")
strKeyPath = "Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs"
oReg.EnumValues HKEY_CURRENT_USER, strKeyPath, arrSubKeys
For Each subkey In arrSubKeys
oReg.GetStringValue HKEY_CURRENT_USER, strKeyPath, subkey,wValue
	WSHShell.RegDelete "HKCU\" & strkeyPath & "\" & subkey
Next

'Remove these lines if setting in a GPO as a logoff or login script
If err then
	msgbox "Error Encountered"
else
	msgbox "IE History Wipe Sucessful"
End If
WScript.Quit

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

I saved the file in c:\script.vbs and run it, but I got the following error:
******************************
Script: C:\script.vbs
Line: 22
Char: 1
Error: Object not a collection
Code: 800A01C3
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
******************************
The problem remains, so something is wrong with code!

marcdmac,
if I understand correctly this script should delete all data from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

There are no data in this thread beside default one.

But if I write "mail" into address bar it still pop-ups mail:e-mail_address.

Any tip?

Uncomment out the line 'On Error Resume Next and you won't get that error any more. It tossed the errror because the key is already empty.

You can also give this script a try. Produces some very interesting results if you want to see what an IE User has been up to.

Hi,

I don't like scripts that I don't understand! Can someone please post some solution without script?

Thanks,
Grofaty

The posted script is rather well documented, you might want to take a visit to for additional information on the topic if you still can't follow it. When executed it will give you a report of all sites the PC has been to and ask you if you want to clear the list.

If it is a question of trust, I'll direct you to take a look at my ranking in the Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Exchange 2003 and VBScript forums. :)

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

There is no question of trust, I bealive you can write scripts. You got to be kidding such to understand such a script it will take me the whole the to figger out what did you want to do.

I like to do it manualy, so if all sources would be listed and I would just look to 10 places to clear the history it would be the best way.

Thanks markdmac!! I've been looking for a solution to wipe my address bar exactly the way your first scipt did!! Thank you!

Grofaty, script seems to be working for others. Perhaps a problem in your copy and paste?

This script is not my own as indicated in the top notes on the Author named Vengy.

I hope you find this post helpful.

markdmac,
I have copy/paste again, but I still get error:

Script: c:\script.vbs
Line: 386
Char: 1031
Error: Unterminated string constant
Code: 800A0409
Sourse: Microsoft VBScript compilation error

markdmac, I think rmiley has answered for first script and not the secound.

Thanks,
Grofaty

No, that can't be it, the first script does nto have a line 386.

I hope you find this post helpful.

i cannot get the script to work either, although i think its down to my own stupidity. This is what i done - hopefully someone can tell me where im going wrong.

first of all im using ME... is that why it wont work?
anyway i saved the script in notepad and changed the file name to script.vbs but nothing happens. if i then open the file all i get is the script shown in notepad... is there another way to change the extension?

thanks in advance

just to be sure is this the program i should download bearing in mind im using ME?

Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 (Windows 9x, Me, NT4)

Yes, WSH = Windows Script Host.

I hope you find this post helpful.
