When you are "in the restaurant" using BOH with Aloha POS do you have the ability to log onto any FOH POS terminal? If Yes, I would assume you would use the same procedure when hooked up remotely with PCA.
If you are trying to watch what happens at the FOH POS then whether or not you are "covert" would be based upon the technique Aloha uses to log onto the FOH POS.
You may also consider using a DVR or CCTV camera system to accomplish this.
What is your goal? Knowing what you are trying to accomplish may allow the Aloha tech's to answer with more clarity.
No I can't log into FOH from BOH. I do not have anyone on the floor with ability to delete items from a check. I am always there to correct. Sometiems I am home and I need to delete something so I drive to restaurant (I live three miles away). It would be easier to do it from home if I could log in.
As Brewman said VNC from the BOH to the FOH is the best way to go, I have 8 terms this way. I also keep 1 term as a PCAny just in case I want to log directly into that term and bypass the file server. Follow these directions exactly:
1. Load PCAny on the terminal (let's say term1).
2. Launch and add Host, give it name like termx. Go to properties and add yourself as a new caller and password. In settings, check launch eith windows.
3. From PCAny manager go to Tools> Options> Host Communications> Advanced TCP/IP Options and change the default ports which are 5631 and 5632 to 5633 and 5634.
4. Launch the new Host and you're finished with the terminal.
5. Go to your file server or any PC that can access the router. I'll assume you have a router, if not get one and I'll assume a Linksys. Go to the Gaming, port forwarding or similar. All routers will have a place to enter the ports which is where you'll put the 5633 and 5634. On the same line there will be an IP address with the last quadrant empty. This is where you enter the IP of the terminal that you're trying to access. Check enable box if there.
6. Finally, create a new REMOTE icon on the PC you want to use remotely. On the front properties page under Details, change the ports from defult to the new 5633 and 5634 ports.
That should do it. Now from anywhere in the world you can PCAny to the restaurant using the WAN IP or the same IP as to the File server, the port forward will connect you to the terminal instead of the Server. You can do this repeatedly by using the next 2 ports everytime (5635 and 5636...etc)
In your system tray (by your clock), you should see an blue and yellow icon. Double click it and it will open the settings. The current passowrd will be masked. Just enter a new one and click apply.
