Hi all,

Having wasted a crackin' 7:30 hours yesterday installing my Xp onto my system, I now have a problem thats a bit of a pain to be honest :) Its as follows:

When copying files from one of my old drives to my new 60gb one jst by drag and drop - i keep getting alerts saying:

Delayed Write Failure

In the warning symbol on the task bar and it saying the information has been lost. Copying data 2 and from my other 2 drives works fine its just to my new 60gb one?!?!?
Im using the handy {not} MaxBlast software for my maxtor as im too tight to buy a new Mobo :) Windows has installed to this drive with few problems and even accessing device manager and adding devices seems to be causing it to hang !

Help me please {on knees}

Cheers Chaps ;)

Chris

if you had board with via chipset and sb live5.1 is probably your soundcard that causes the problem. Remove it and try again.

Take a look at other posts in this forum, you are not the only one. I have tried to resaerch this, so far to no avail, but I am working on it.

I have win xp pro on a sysytem with udma HDs and a scsi card for the cd-rw, dvd and an old dinosaur called a "phase change dual" 650 MB optical cartridge style drive (it happens to be the e:\ drive letter). Any way I installed an driver update recently and since then whenever windows starts I get the "delayed write failed" msg. These old cartridges are formatted in plain vanilla FAT just like a 650 mb diskette. I think that has got something to do with it. I disabled write caching for the drive. What worked is simply removing the cartridge from the drive. No data loss ever occurred from using the drive. The error msg would only appear on start-up. I think the drive can't take the data dump from the system as fast as XP shuts down.

You may find some useful clues in these. Also see if any further information is available from your Event Viewer.
