We are trying to set up delayed ringing on a Norstar. What we want is for an outside line to ring at the receptionist then after 2 to 3 rings if un-answered delay ring to another extension.

Is this possible without having the delayed call be transferred to the backup's voicemail in the event that they don't answer the call?

The Norstar system is running version 4.0 software.

You can call forward the first ext to the second extension on a no answer and then call forward the second extension to voice mail on a no answer. I am no positive but it should then go to the first extensions voice mail. The only problem is that this will occur all of the time, and if someone dials 0 out of the auto attendant at night they will have to wait for the ring cycle of both extensions before reaching a mailbox.

Or put both extensions in a hunt group together (sequential mode) with a hunt delay of 30 - 45 seconds. Then the overflow can be the 1st port of the vmail. Set up a mailbox with the hunt group number and assign the hunt group DN as the extension number.

When the calls go through the hunt group sequence it will then overflow to a general mailbox. The only draw back would be that both the recept. and the back up ext would have to periodically check the mailbox to see if there are any messages in it.

How about setting up receptionist phone for A&R on the outside lines then make the lines appear only on backup, turn DRT To Prime on with a Delay of 4 rings, set up the backup ext to be the Primeset for each outside line.

call would ring on receptionist phone until DRT Timer is counted off then ring on both receptionist and backup until CFNA of Backup is reached then call is in Backup mailbox. Receptionist would have to not have vm or have a CFNA timer set higher than the number of rings that both the DRT and CFNA would be.

Thanks to all who have replied. I will try all of these options and report back as to what I find.
