When I send messages to anyone who has gmail, I get a message back in a couple hours the delivery is delayed. In day or so I get a message that delivery failed.

I thought this issue was related to my recent certificate issues, but that has been resolved.

What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

HI! CHECK THE FOLLOWING THINGS,

1) THE SEND CONNECTOR UNDER MAILBOX CONFIGURATION

HERE U MUST CREATE A SEND CONNECTOR FOR INTERNET USER AND U MUST SELECT THE USER
GROUP ANYOUMOUS.

2) CHECK UR FIREWALL SETTINGS

3) YOU CAN CHECK THE STATUS OF UR MESSAGE USING QUE VIEWER UNDER MAILBOX TOOLS

FROM WHEN ARE U FACING THIS ISSUE????

GOOD LUCK!

The basic problem is that Google/Gmail doesn't fully trust your sending server. When you send a message there, they are doing something called "graylisting" which basically tells your server "Try again later." Some systems do that as an anti-spam measure because a spamming server won't typically resend the mail, but a normal server will. Alternately they are just not accepting the connection from your server.

Why would that be? Here are a couple of the most likely reasons:

1. You don't have an RDNS/PTR record defined for the public IP that your mailserver is using when it sends out mail.
2. Your server's public IP is on a blacklist or is included in a range that has some spamming servers on it.

Go to DNSStuff.com and run a DNSreport on your domain name. It will tell you if either of the above issues exist.

I ran the dnsstuff dns report as you suggested, everything that came back with a warning or a fail the description said it was fine or normal

For example:
Parent zone does not provide glue for nameservers, which will cause delays in resolving your domain name. The following nameserver addresses were not provided by the parent 'glue' and had to be looked up individually. This is perfectly acceptable behavior per the RFCs. This will usually occur if your DNS servers are not in the same TLD as your domain (for example, a DNS server of "ns1.example.org" for the domain "example.com"). In this case, you can speed up the connections slightly by having NS records that are in the same TLD as your domain.

NS75.DOMAINCONTROL.COM. | No Glue | TTL=7200
NS76.DOMAINCONTROL.COM. | No Glue | TTL=7200

It looks like the problem is my anti-virus, for one reason or another is once again the problem. I currently have it disabled and successfully sent a message to my gmail account.

I am uninstalling my anti-virus and reinstalling it.
