SBS 2003 Sp2 and Exchange SP1, ISP is ATT
mail server on location, website hosting elswhere for the same FQDN. I believe I am having issues with reverse dns checks from these mail servers rejecting my emails.
domain.com is hosted elswhere for website
mail for domain.com comes into office after going through psmtp.com filters.
outgoing mail from exchange hits internet with static IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at location.
My SMTP virtual server properties delivery tab shows FQDN as XXXXX.XXXXX.local
I have been told that I can create a PTR for that static IP address I am using on location and assoiciate with domain.com name.
My questions is if I do this will this effect in any way my website hosting with same domain name or my incoming mail with same domain name.
Is the PTR record only for reference saying to servers that are checking this, Hey this is from mail.domain.com or domain.com?
Thanks for your help.
