I am running Exchange 2000 with Outlook 2007.

I have 1 user who is getting a delay in her emails. She is on Outlook 2007 and seemingly at random emails will appear in her inbox that were sent hours before.

She is using cached exchange mode as she is on a laptop. If I switch out of cached then the emails are fine, but as soon as I switch back, the same happens.

Could it be an issue with the OST file?

I have now tried deleting and recreating the OST file but this has made no difference.

If the user shuts outlook and reopens the emails appear.

I am stumped by this one

no firewalls running on it, this was one of the first things I tried.

Since she's using a laptop, I have to wonder if she's also losing connectivity? At a previous job all of our laptop users were configured with Offline Files in Windows that would synch at logon and logoff (not to be confused with Outlook offline files). However, sometimes the laptop would get confused as to whether the PC was connected to the network or not, and switch to the disconnected state while they were still plugged in. In these cases they could still work as if they were online as long as they were using their offline files. If you have a similar config and the OST file is local, then you may be seeing the same problem. Look for an icon in the system tray that indicates that the laptop is in offline mode.

The Win XP DST update required (KB928388) requires SP2. If you wanted to patch your OS with the DST patch you had to install SP2.

(Your other alternative to have windows manage/switch DST and avoid installing SP2 was to manually edit the TZ Database using TZEDIT. Do not forget to switch from and back to your time zone for the CurrentControlSet Reg key to update)

In my case the firewall in SP2 was preventing communication between Exchange and Outlook on the effected PC. (Even though I was able to download messages by exiting outlook.)

When I installed SP2 on the affected computer I forgot to disable the Windows Firewall. (Not a problem since I am running a hardware based firewall solution on my network.)

I dont think the firewalls are an issue here. The laptop already had SP2 and KB928388 was installed long before the issue started

Stevie,

This problem occured with 2 users on monday (immediately)after the new DST rules went into effect.

The information I posted in my previous thread had resolved my problems. Everyone is happy now....

I wish you luck in resolving your issue.

Make sure in the lower right-hand corner of Outlook that the user is not in "offline" mode. Also, do a send-receive all to see if the missing messages come in.

You say that the emails are there when this person is not in cached mode, which means the problem is related to replication.

Good luck,
