Currently running XP Pro on a Dell 4300. We have a piece of software that HAS to have '98, and I'm thinking of installing it on the Dell.

I'm no PC tech, and it's been a while. What am I going to need on the Floppy?

I'm thinking:

F-Disk
ATAPI
HiMem
System Files

Or as I should have mentioned in my first message setting up a dual boot with 98 and XP is also a good possibility.

Thanks guys. Here's what I'm gonna try

1. Compatibility mode
2. Partition Majic/Dual Boot
3. (Last Resort) Re-Format

If 1) doesn't work, you may need to skip to 3). <There will probably be a few disagreements on this> Most of the time, if you dual boot, the older OS needs o be installed first. So, to dual boot, you would have to reformat, create the 2 partitions, install W98 first, then XP.

From what I've read XP only support Partition Magic version 8 (maybe 7 also). Compatability mode won't work for older versions of this software, and if, on the off chance it does it may have dire effects on your XP OS. Just a warning!

Cheers

Thx to all who respond ;)

Just three words of advice before you do anything.

Backup, backup BACKUP!

i would suggest the dual OS path. its fairly easy to set up, and runs fairly well. it does take quite a bit of room, especially if you're doing it so you can run one program. besides re-formatting and starting over, this is the best solution that comes to mind.

depending on the software, there may be a compatitbility patch...
