On our 2000 server, we are having two issues. One is for some reason when we go to empty the recycle bin, it is asking us if we want to empty all 24 items. However, when we try to delete them, is says:

Cannot delete the file maps_c~1. Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name. I have never seen this before.

Next,
We are trying to defrag our C drive. The drive is 10gb, with 35% free space. When we go to defrag it, it takes forever, then says that it is complete. However, it doesn't do anything, and when we analyse it again, it says that it still needs to be defraged. When it analyzes, there is no free space and with the exception of the fragmented files, all of the space is green (system files). How should we defrag the drive? Is it possible to take another HD with XP on it, hook it up and boot from the XP drive, and then defrag the root server drive from there?

Sorry for the long post....

For the recycling bin issue did you try deleting it from the cmd prompt?
As for the defrag issue, since you only have 35% disk space remaining, defrag will have a hard time. Try moving your files to a temporary location (another drive), defrag the disk and copy them back.
