We are currently on the 9.5 version of the Definity. What is the latest version and also what are the advantages to upgrading to the latest version? (What new features will we gain?)
As far as I know Joel, R11 is the latest without going to the S8700 platform. The main thing that I have seen in this release is all geared toward VOIP.
Thanks Mike. Weve been having a myriad of problems with IP Softphones and Voice over IP. We had been told that we might need to upgrade the switch but I wanted to make sure before we did it. Im figuring it will be expensive so I want to make sure I know as much as possible before we jump in.
If your switch is a G3si or Prologix you can upgrade to Communications Manager 2.0. G3r can only be upgraded to CM 1.3. The added features are more and more directed to IP Telephony. Very little for 'regular' telephony.
Thanks Kevin. Were working with our Avaya sales team to find out how much this will cost us. They did tell me about the 2.o upgrade since we have an SI.
Something 'stinks in Denmark' if u have to pay for a upgrade to get "myriad of problems with IP Softphones and Voice over IP" to be fixed. Me thinks u should be threatening Avaya with lawsuits or tell them to come and get the pbx and get your money back if they can't get it working. Unless they are giving u the upgrade for free, which I have seen happen.
The earlier releases of software had a lot of problems with VOIP; of course VOIP wasn’t out that long either. There are still of lot of problems with it, but the new later greater releases have resolved at least some of the earlier problems.
They will be bringing us to version 9.5.1.x.x.x.x. for free. We are already at 9.5.1 point something but they swear up and down that this update will make the Voice over IP problem much better......we'll see.
We cant them to connect over a VPN. Im not convinced that its a switch problem but the network guys here say that everything is fine on their side. Avaya ran some tests and thought that we should have our switch updated to see if that will solve the problem.
Joel, we just upgraded from a G3siR9 to a Communications Manager 2.0. I believe that's the highest you can go without having to swap out or add new hardware. It cost us in the area of about $21,000 for the one switch. It's only been about a week so I'm still doing some digging to find out exactly what benefits it offers for "regular" telephony versus IP. We aren't using VOIP. We were hoping the upgrade would increase the amount of vectors we could have from I believe 256 to 999. But because of all the different names Avaya has for their versions, I misunderstood and as a result, no increase in vectors with this version.
Thanks Carol. For now we are going to version 10. I dont see us spending 20,000 at this point on the upgrade to 2.0 unless we start doing more VOIP stuff. On Wednesday, Avaya will be coming in to do the upgrade and I hope it makes everything better....
I have an s8700 on version 1.3 and my business partner is recomending an upgrade to 2.0 we dont use VOIP and are not having any problems with our current system. The only reason it was brought up is that we are at 95 percent RTU for total subscribed ports and thay said it would free some of them up. by not counting something but I forgot what. ANyone see any reason to do the upgrade?
