I have a Definity G3si that is in storage and is password protected and nobody seems to remember the password. How can I access the switch to change the password?

Thats the problem I dont know. I need to find the software release to determine some features and functionality. I want to say probably 8.0 or 9.0

You can try login: craft and pwd: crftpw This login works for a variety aof switches that I have worked on unless this account has been disabled. Then you can use the display capacity and go to the last page which will show your version of switch you have. Hope that helps...

you can also tell the software release of the switch by typing 'newterm' at the command line of the Definity.

have to be logged in to do the "newterm" though

and the person can't get logged in :p

I know that, but if and when he can get logged in, you can use 'newterm' to see the load version.
Just a shortcut....

I could tell you the 'init' default after registration, but I'd have to.....well, you know.

lol, how do you think Avaya Tier3 gets in when even ASG won't work?

Remember, customers may buy the hardware, but the software and licenses still belong to AT&T, Lucent, Avaya.

Well i'm not sure what switches you've been working on, but any since R8 that i've touched, when you try to use the init login, it asks for an ASG response..

Hey telecom tech's... thanks for all the awesome input. Once I get into the switch I will provide the details on what worked in this thread.

If you can connect a line to the Pbx, Avaya might be able to dial into the system and reset the password for u. If it was installed at another location then that information might help. The old passwords that Avaya has in their data base might be on the records for the old location. But it wouldn't be your passwords, just theirs to go in and reset yours. I believe that Avaya can decode passwords from tapes or flash cards, but I am not sure of that. They are going to charge u even if u have maint on the system through Avaya. (yes, believe it or not, some people have maint on systems in storage.)
If u bought the stored PBx from someone else, I have been told that u bought only the hardware. To use the Pbx legally u have to buy the software from Avaya again. If u bought a whole company that owned the pbx, then u have rights to the software too. That is what I have been told.

You might try bringing the switch up with no backup media present (tape or card removed). Then try one of the default logins like cust with custpw
