How do I stop a flash hook from going to the paging system?
What is happening from a analog phone only... If a user calls an extension, the person isn't there the user briefly hangs up than pages the person dialing 80 for the page. Next thing you know the person's VM is heard over the paging system.

Depending on the analog set, on the bottom look to see if there is a switch labeled pos. This is a positive disconnect
with this on it will hold the switch hook so you get a disconnect rather than a flash. The other thing would be to educate the users to hang up completely for a few seconds before making another call or page.

The analog phones that im talking about have no pos switch on them. They were originally from a Rolm 8000 we kept them in place when we installed the Avaya Definity. Anyone else out there have any thoughts on this? Educating the user to hang up for a few seconds before making the page won't work.
Thanks in advance for any help.

How do you access your paging. I know that said by dialing 80, but what is 80 defined as in your switch? Is it an analog station that rings to Paging Access Module or is 80 defined as a TAC on the paging form?

Why not turn turn it off on the 2nd page of the station form?

If you don't need to have flash avaiable for using other features ( transfer, Conference) Do what buckweet said...
Turn it off on the station form.

80 is defined as a TAC. It is on trunk 3. Anymore thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

kwoods,
Sounds like they just need to wait a few seconds before trying to page. If it's true as you said "Educating the user to hang up for a few seconds before making the page won't work" then I'll fall back on my saying, I don't have a technical solution to your management problem. People who refuse to operate the equipment properly, or worse, refuse to listen to sound logic about how to operate it, are doomed anyway, and should be kept away from machines with moving parts or electrical current.

Kwoods,
Seen this many times...
Are you using a standard CO Trunk card for this application?
If you have an Auxillary Card, same as music on hold, you can use the "change paging loudspeaker" and move the paging access over to that card. This type of access inherently prevents you from being able to transfer to the paging system. Let me know if you need more info on how to do this.

Surplus,
Yes I need more info on this. Don't know if I'm using a standard CO trunk card or not. Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks

The first and foremost thing to look for in your switch is to see if you have an Auxilary Trunk circuit pack. This can be found in the "List conf trunk" screen. Look for TN763 type of card. If your system has music-on-hold, this is usually connected to this card also. It is a card with 4 useable ports, so you can even check on the disp system parameters features screen to see where the music on hold is connected to and then display that card and see if there are any available ports. After that, it is simply a matter removing your trunk group 3 and it's port assignment and then going to the Change Paging Loudspeaker screen, populating the port field and TAC field with the Aux Trunk port information and changing the cross connect for the port assignment in the switch room. You can contact me directly if you have any further questions. Surplusphones@comcast.net
