Hi,

Can anyone reply with what is a "WebLogic Instance". Can one Server Instance exist only on one Physical Box or can it spread on Multiple Physical Boxes.

Thanks.
BSN!

Read my reply to this thread:thread830-234645

The short of it is that you can have multiple instances of WebLogic running on the same box if they listen to separate ports. A single instance lives on a single box but you can cluster across machines if you need to scale.

Okay then ...

So - On one physical box, you can have multiple instances of WLS - that's fine!

Lets say you have one instance on one box ... and 2 such boxes. NOW, if you cluster them into one cluster, CAN you have the same instance name on both boxes?

If not, then it means that one Instance, in a clustered environment can be only on one box and not distributed over many (basically from JNDI Point-of-View).

Any links or references where I can read more (other than beasys.com).

Thanks!

Hey!

There's a great book called Designing applications in BEA WebLogic Server that has step by step instructions on all tasks that can be done with BEA Servers.

Here's what I remember from that book -

1. Start up the server and open the console - default 7001>/console.
2. On the Admin Console - go to Deployments --> Applications
3. Select - Configure a new application - follow the steps and specify values you would like to have for the App properties (leave most as default - to start off with) - you can experiment later with the rest - use any of the default .war files as path.
4. Restart the server and refresh the console.
5. I believe with this you should be done!
