I've been asked to automate the inventory resets and MRP regens to run overnight. I used the Macola deferred reports about 10 years ago and gave up because I couldn't get it to run more than a week without having to check on it - kind of defeated the purpose of a scheduled report. I see that the scheduler has not changed in 10+ years and have also seen old threads on this issue, so I'm not optimistic that my deferred reports experience will be any different this time. I guess I'm asking if anyone is successfully using deferred reports or if anyone has developed a working substitute. I know this is not a high priority for Exact, but would it be too much to ask to have a services-type scheduler for deferred report processing?

Your alternative on the resets is to write the SQL code to do this and schedule it as a SQL job in Enterprise Manager. MRP Regen is a bit of a stretch for this though.
On regular reports, not processes like you are suggesting, there are a number of crystal report schedulers out there that are very affordable. You'd need to recreate the report in Crystal but if you start with the ICR this is pretty easy.

We use deferred reports to run the mrp merge and regen twice daily and it's pretty much just as you described. The processes may run fine for a couple days or a couple weeks before problems start. You might miss schedules for no reason and if the server reboots (ms update) while the "report" owner is logged in there is a good chance of the schedules magically deleting. Either way expect that Exact support will be of no help as the "scheduler was never meant to automate MRP processes".
We have gotten around it by training one of the planners here to create and automate the processes and to understand the report spooled to his printer at the end of the process.
