If I have a 500v2 at version 8.1 and I want to use it to replace a 500v2 at 9.1 it looks for an upgrade license. Can I default it thru the DTE port to forget about what version it was running at previously? and if so what DTE commands do I use?

NO"
if it is already used and at a particular software level then you are stuck with it at that level.
you can use a lower level software on it.
or any 8.1 level and upgrade to another 8.1 within the same software level.

Or buy a R10+ runtime lic and use 9.1 as upgrade licenses are eos.

....don't bother.

You can default the configuration, and you can default the security settings, but there are some values that only Avaya can reset.

Returning an IP500 V2 back to its full original state can only be done by returning it to Avaya's authorized repairers.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
