Can someone help me.
I have some old reports from Crystal 7 that use running totals which only evaluate when a particular condition is true. If this condition was never met they defaulted to zero which was perfect for what I wanted.

In Crystal 8 however, they do not default to zero, they are left uncalculated and blank. Is there a way of making them default to zero. I have tried playing with the formatting of the field but that does not help.

MStokes,

Make sure that in File Options and File Report Options, the convert null field to default checkboxes are checked. Software Support for Sage Mas90, Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Thanks for your response but it did not help. I tried it with an out of the box sample and it did not work either. I may have to use the example in the help file which shows how to create a running total using variables. Atleast I can then default the variable to zero.

If the only reason you are using the running total is to get an evaluate condition, you can use a conditional total. See my FAQ on common formulas ( faq149-243 ) for a description. These will give a zero if there are no qualifying records, and they are a bit simpler then using variables. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Thankyou so much Ken,
They are much simpler to use than variables and I can easily change all my reports to suit.

Michael.
