How do I set the router to default to the start configuration file?

using 1600 series

Do a write erase ,reload the box, if it asks you to save the config , say no and then reload . This will wipe the router clean .

What I want (not sure if possible)is when the router gets rebooted, powered on, it defauts to the start configuration without prompting the user.

looks like you don't save your running config. do "wr mem" or "copy run start", when you're done with configuration.

Check the config-register. You can save the config all you want, but if the config-register is set to bypass the start config, it will do just that.

sh ver

Will tell you what the config-register is set to.
