Is there a way to default the location when using "save as". Right now the default is the location of the original document I am now trying to rename. I have modified the Save location in the Tools->Options and that doesnt work.

In excel if you change the default location in Tools/Options/general tab it works or at least it should work. it has worked for me in the last few mins in Excel 2000.

Just worked in Word 2000 aswell. What application are you using?

It would be nice to know what application you're working with.

But generally speaking, changing the default location in Tools > Options will work for any new files you create.

If you open an existing file, the application is going to try to be helpful by bringing up its location when you use SaveAs.

I don't think there is a way to change this behavior.

If you are repeatedly opening files from the same location, then a possible workaround would be to create a shortcut to the folder where you want items saved. Place that shortcut in the folder where the files you're opening reside.
