default "BTsecurity" password for "BT" supplied Avaya IP Office systems?

I've been doing some research on trying to find the default "BTsecurity" password. I came across this thread

This query of mine will probably only apply to Tek-tip members based in the UK as it seems that our country's main telecoms operator "BT" had a deal with Avaya to provide a branded custom made version.

This means that "BT" have added in certain settings that only they can change.
I'm used to resetting Avaya IPO passwords via the serial port or under advance settings in Manager etc, but the typical "security" account is branded "BTsecurity" and it's asking for the existing password when you try to change it. All I'm able to do is to change the account name.

I was hoping if anyone who is perhaps ex "BT" knew the default password and could kindly contact me please?.

Another query is if it is possible to remove "BT IP Ofice" that appears on the IP sets. I know it's due to having the licence of
SP Soft Branding, but all I've discovered is that the name isn't coded on the phone as it's not there when the phone is used on another IP Office. Yet if you upgrade the IP Office to a later version without the SP Soft Branding licence, the IP phone still displays the logo.

cant help with the passwords,
I have seen a few BT branded avayas and the customer had some "admin" level passwords but i cant recall what they were now.
Regarding the licence issue i have heard that you can downgraded the avaya to release 6, and this removes the branding licence, then upgrade back to the release you need. it hardcodes something in somewhere

Thanks for the reply tonight. I've been on the Avaya web site and I can't seem to find any bin files for release 6.0. All I can see are ones for release 8.1 onwards.

There is at least one Admin release for each version from 5.0 on the Avaya Support site.

3.0 was released before IP500 even existed and the version on the site is for DT which is old INDEX phones.

I have hever had issues using the DTE method to default the security on a BT box.

I think to remove the BT branding I had to default the unit, default the security, retype the config and then only upload the licences I actually wanted.

Thanks for the replies. My query is that after resetting the passwords / Accountes etc, the "security" one defaults to "BTsecurity" which is OK to change the name, but I'm unable to change the password as you have to know the default one in order to change it.

The branding of "BT IP Office" is a pain that I've yet to test out.

You didn't state what version you are on. If Web Manager is available you should be able to create a service user with full rights that would allow for changes to the security settings. The logo on the phones is nothing more than a jpg file on the card, I would think you could either remove it or change it with a pic editing app and reload it.

It's across all versions from 9.0 onwards with regards to the BTSecurity password in the IPO Security settings area.
As for the "BT IP Office" logo appearing on the phones, I have added in a photo.

It seems that once the Avaya IP Office unit has had the SP branding licence, then the Motherboard has something changed so that whatever release or keycode is given, the phones will still have that logo on them.

For those of you who are aware of the default BTSecurity setting that can't be changed, here is a screen shot of what you get after you do a complete reset and for me it was a case of pressing the reset button for 30 seconds to flatten the system. I then did a recreate to 9.0 and this brought the system to the newest release which meant I had to do a downgrade to 9.0 which worked.

As I've said before, I can't change the password as I don't know the original one as it isn't the standard one that Avaya uses.

If you can get into security setting you can create/delete service users. And you didn't mention that were 1600 sets. I am in the US so BT isn't an issue, so my advice is all conjecture. I would try saving the config, formatting the card, recreating it. This should get rid of any odd files that they may have put in there as long as you are not using the Manager app supplied by them.

I have always been told (by Avaya) that the only way to get rid of BT Branding is to send the unit to an Avaya maintenance centre for refurbishing. I can't say is downgrading back to R6, delete the branding licenses and then upgrading again would work as I have never tried, but I would be suprised.

The BT Branding license sets a flag that is not in the config, it is on the hardware. Put in another brand new SD and it will still be there.

We swap the IP500v2 unit to get rid of this, its the only guaranteed way we have found.

Also I have been told that the BTsecurity password changes and is updated on a regular basis. There isn't just one. Even the BT Engineers don't know what it is!
