Is it possible to put a default profile that I have created up on a network share that all users get when first creating an account on an XP machine?

I want to:

1) Create a profile in XP and tweak it the way I want it
2) Copy this profile up to a network share
3) Have all users (that obviously do not have a profile yet) get this profile applied to their local profile on their machine when the profile is first created

I do not know if this can be accomplished via some GPO. Can anybody help?

Thanks.

p.s. Windows server 2003 native. All clients are XP machines.

First create a template user. Log in as that user and configure everything How you like. Then copy that user profile. Store the user profile on a network share. Share the profile. then go back to MS users and computers, and in the profile path, specify the path to that share you created, i.e \\computername\sharename

Then when your creating your users, just copy the template user. The properties associated with the template user will now be applied to the new users being created.

I'll just add that doing this copies every settings on the user. That means that if you wan't My computer and My documents etc to show up on the desktop, you now can If you set this in the default user before you copy it.

You can also click on a user on the server and specify a profile path. When you do this, specify the FOLDER of the default user! :)

Take a look at the link below under the Configuring a Default Profile section, it tells you how to create a profile and to copy it to a folder called Default User in the Netlogon share. I use this and it works very well the first time a user logs onto a station they get this profile instead of the stations default profile.

Forgot too say this is the way it should be done as Windows checks first the users profile folder if there is no profile there it checks NETLOGON if that fails it checks the local staion.
If you specify a different network share for the default profile windows tries to upload to this share at every logoff and you will receive an error message, or if the user has write access your lovely default profile will be scrubbed by the users one.

Thank you for all your replies! What a great thing to add to my network. Thanks a million!

Did I say yet that this forum is the BEST????
