Default Icons on Desktop

Can the default icons (my computer, recycle bin, etc.) be removed from the desktop? I have all icons on the quick launch toolbar for less clutter but the default ones cannot be deleted.

never mind...I found it on the active desktop menu.

If you right click on a blank area of the desktop, select properties, click desktop tab, click on customize desktop you are given the option to remove the unwanted icons.

They can always be put back later if needed.
