I am running windows xp and I have a dialup internet connection using the standard dialup configuration in windows xp. I am able to authenticate and I receive an IP address, but no gateway address. All parameters are set for dynamic. What gives. I have tried ipconfig /release and renew to no avail.
Please advise.

First question: Are you able to browse the Internet? If so then no problems.

Second question: What are you actually getting for your default gateway? Is it the same as your assigned address? If so then this is normal. The RAS you are connected to has your IP address in it's table and can route to and from properly.

I am unable to browse nor can I ping (by IP or FQDN). In addition, a tracert goes nowhere.

What IP address, subnet mask and default gateway are you getting? Who is the ISP? Have you contacted them for support? If so what did they say? The more details you can give the better shot you have at getting this resolved.

It is just weird, because I take another machine, setup exactly the same and I am able to access with no problems. Here is a copy of the ipconfig /all

Is this info the same for the working PC? Also did you try contacting your ISP? They should have some troubleshooting ideas to help isolate why routing is not working.

Does your ISP not support DHCP - if your anwser is no then this is odd - if they do support DHCP but you would just like the same IP each time you dialup you might as well forget it because - when you connect to your ISP usually they assign you the ip of the port of the portmaster you connect on OR if not this way then they just assign you an IP of the next free one - so if you are trying to dialup with an IP that is already being used by someone else then you will not beable to access the internet because you would not have a valid ip because it is already in use
