Is there a way to change the default reminder sound for appointments? I'm using Sidekick98 on Windows ME, and the default is START.WAV, but this doesn't make any sound. When I remember, I set to a different sound, but this doesn't seem to hold. When I open the appointment again, it's back to START.WAV.

Like so many others, I've stayed with SK despite its being discontinued because I haven't found anything better. But I've missed more than one appointment because the reminder window popped up but I didn't know it because there was no sound. I'm hoping this won't be the proverbial last straw--especially since I just discovered this forum.

Dear rahamim,
The first thing I can think of is Exit Sidekick and then in windows explorer just rename
Start.Wav
then rename one of the other sounds that you prefer to
Start.Wav

The sounds are to be found in C:\Windows\Media
Just right click and copy
Start.Wav
paste it into the same folder as
Copy of Start.wav
then delete the original and rename the Wav file you prefer to
Start.Wav
Then rename Copy of Start.Wav to the name of the file you preferred and
Voila

Then if anything doesn't work you can reverse the procedure.

Dear rahamim,
I might add that this will change the default sound for all applications that use Windows Sounds

Dear Jim,
I did what you suggested, and it works fine. But I didn't pay enough attention to your little follow-up post about other apps that use Windows sound.

The good news is that a neat, attention-getting "Ta-TAA" now reminds me of each appointment. The bad news is that it also jolts me every time a function is carried out, which pretty much means every time I click on a button (it took about five Ta-TAAs just to get to this window). Now I know why the original START.WAV file is the smallest in its subdirectory, emitting an almost inaudible "tick" sound.

So, I'm back to my original question: In WindowsMe, is there a way to change the default just for SK98 sound--either throughout the program, or even better, only for the appointments reminder?

(But I must admit, I don't miss appointments the way I used to!).

Dear rahamim,
I think we are in a situation where the Registry is going to have to be HACKED and I am not going to suggest to you something I am not sure about,
so I will have a go myself at determining which key value needs to be changed and if you keep this post marked I will get back to you.
I remember changing Word97's print properties using a similar method to give me a default of just printing the current page I hope I can remember how I did it.(i.e. The article I was reading at the time!)
If anyone else knows please don't hesitate to post the answer as I am at the moment struggling with NERO 5.5 and a new CDWriter

I will be back
Regards Jim
