Where is the registry setting that determines the default pointer to a specific folder when opening, saving as files in programs? If there isn't, is there a workaround? Applicable for Win XP and 2000 would be great. Thanks.

Probably it is in H_C_U\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellFolders\Personal and in ....\Explorer\UserShellFolders\Personal

Thanks, but I don't think that's the place....... tried it. It sets the folders but it doesn't point to specifics.....

Specific pointers , maybe they can be found in
H_C_U\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags and a similar key under Shell (?)

For Word - Open word, tools\options\file locations\modify Documents

For Excel - Tools\options\general\edit default file location

For Powerpoint - tools\options\save\edit default file location
