I've already posted this question some time ago in thread65-344913 but I haven't gotten an answer. I've reinstalled apache and this still doens't work. I've just installed apache on my NTWS4 (sp4). It's not online or networked, it's just a stand alone and I want to have a http server 'cause I'm going to learn some server side stuff. If I specify - then I get the index.html file which I saved in the htdocs folder. However, if I type in - I get a 404. Even though the contact folder (which is in the htdocs folder - same place as the index.html which loads when I enter has an index.html file in it. Why is this? Is there something I need to change in the configuration file? index.html is set as the default document, so shouldn't this work?

I didn't think of that. I'll give that a go tonight when I go home and I'll post back tomorrow.

Hi again,

Well I tried it out, but to no avail. I still get a 404 regardless of whether I put the / at the end or not.

ok lads, screwed up a little. when I tried out GoldenEternity's suggestion of adding the trailing '/' - I'd forgotten that I had deleted the conact folder - so naturally I was going to get a 404 - d'uh!!

I recreated it last night and now when I enter 127.0.0.1/contact/ I get the index.html file that's in the contact folder - so it is working properly. however, if I enter 127.0.0.1/contact - I get the 404 error. my next question is, how do I configure apache so that if a user enters the URL without the trailing '/' that it'll add it on?

Thanks again for your help

lads, thanks so much for your help. I don't really know much about web servers, up until now I was only doing client side stuff but I'm trying to learn some perl so I had to install apache.

thanks again

I need help again!! sleipnir214 - the link you provided me, where exactly do I insert this code? I know I put it into the apache.httpd file, but after that I'm all clued out. I did try putting it in near the top, but when I restarted it said something about not recognizing Rewrite engine. I can't remember exactly what it said. plz, anybody help me?

HI again, well I tried putting this at the end, but that didn't work either. I still got the same error. why is this? what am I doing wrong?
