Default directory view on IP 500 4.2(17)

I wanted to know if it is possible to modify the default directory view for my IPO 500 running 4.2(17). Currently when a user goes into the directory the phone requires that they select from "Index, Group, or Extrn". When index or group is selected the user has to begin dialing a name, I'd prefer to keep the directory VERY simple where the users hits directory and sees a list of users. Is this even remotely possible?

not cheaply

the directory interface is massively improved on 5.0 when running 16series phones. Providing what you want. As far as i know you cant change the way the dir works on 54 series phones.
