Deep Cycle UPSavailable? 1

I am looking for a way to make a PC/cart completely wireless (no power or LAN cords). I have found one solution from Ergotron, in the form of their EPS/48 and EPS/100 deep cycle UPS + cart solution. It is a very slick solution, but expensive (around $2,500 for the cart + UPS). I was thinking that if I could find a UPS designed with deep cycling in mind (like the Ergotron EPS line), that was reasonable cost, I could use any old cart. I have not been able to find another UPS manufacturer with deep cycle UPS. Does anyone know of a manufacturer?

Take a look at Tripplite's PowerVerter APS series. You add as many (and whatever type) batteries as you need. They come in different sizes depending on your load.

I guess a power inverter would work, but for this application, the issue would become recharging the batteries. We would have to have a separate battery charger(s) for each cart. We plan on having 6 carts. So, we would need to have 6 chargers. I also worry about the general user being able to hook up the chargers without shocking themselves, or sparks starting fires, etc. It would be better if there was a self-contained UPS that had an internal deep cycle battery, or could be hooked up to a deep cycle battery (but still had its own internal charger).

Again, the powerverter allows you to hook up any type of battery you like and it has a built in charger. Works for me.

I didn't read the information close enough. I didn't realize the PowerVerter has a built-in charger. I have heard a rumor that deep cycle batteries like to be charged at a different voltage than regular batteries. Do you know if that is true? Do you use the PowerVerter in a mobile application like I am contemplating?

If I remember correctly, the design of the battery is what allows it to deep cycle not the charging voltage. I'm also pretty sure that tripplite suggested deep cycle batteries for that product. I don't have a mobile power need like yours, so no, but if I did, that'd be how I'd go. You just have to make sure you have enough batteries to handle your uptime requirements and that the powerverter will handle 2x your load.
