I have just received an Exchange 5.5 server from an office that was shut down. What would be the best way to decommission the server?

Thanks.

If you've just received it and never used it, what's wrong with fdisk?

I'm assuming you want to back it up in fact. Spin it up, ntbackup the lot.

Well, the mailboxes were moved out before the server was shipped. There were a couple of bridgehead servers that were communicating with this server. I just want to make sure that the Exchange 5.5 organization gets cleaned up before the server is completely removed. I just didn't want to leave out any steps.

Hi!

If you open Exchange Administrator (or Exchange System Manager) and you do not see this server any more it means that it was deleted from your Exchange Org.
In that case you can format the server (I understand that the mailboxes were successfully moved).
