I had an executable file sent to me, and it was converted to exe from a perl script. I know this because the guy that sent it to me told me.

SO my question...is there any way to decode an exe file and figure out what the original perl script looks like?

I want to change just one thing in the script...I just don't have the original perl script to do that. Any help is appreciated.

I really don't thing the 'unzip' method will do much.

If the compiled perl is a windows executable, then you can search for a program called 'exe2perl'.

Be warned, though. If, and IF, you get the program decompiled, it will look _nothing_ like the original file and may be rather difficult to follow any logic.

Your best option may be to contact the party you obtained the file from and have the change made.

If it was compiled with par (which pretty much everyone compiles perl with) then unzipping it works just fine.

You will then have to take the script out and re-compile it with par.

It is a windows executable, and it was compiled using Perl2Exe.

And the unzipping didnt do a thing. But thank you anyway.

Any more help out there? (Can't find the program exe2perl....searched everywhere)

Guess I'm showing my age. After doing many searches, I too can no longer find exe2perl. I know I had used it many years back.

I had not been aware of 'par', hence my ignorance on that subject.

I looked for exe2perl and I see a lot of people talking about it but I couldn't find it either.

I figured everyone used par anymore :) but perl2exe (the paid version) has some neat features ..
