Environment:
Win2K, Citrix XPe, Vendor supplied app with Crystal "embedded" in it

Problem: User runs report, CR viewer (of some sort) opens and displays the report. There are a few icons available to the user (refresh, export, select printer, and print). The print icon is ALWAYS greyed out. The only way to enable it is to first go to "select printer".

(Other apps which also use Crystal and are installed on the same environment do not have this problem)

Any ideas?

Did you try going to "File" -> "printer Setup" and setting a default printer in the CR report?

Some of the reports have NO PRINTER SELECTED. This used be a suggestion found on CR's website. Others have a defualt printer selected. But the results are the same for both.

My previous experiences with printers and CR is that if the printer selected in the CR is not available, it will print on whatever is the "default" for the machine it is running on. I just re-read your initial post and you stated that it is running in a "vendor supplied app." Since "greying" out a button is very easy with code, I would talk to the vendor since it sounds like it may be something they programmed in the app. Are all the computers/workstations set up the exact same way (same printers, same OS, same DLLs, etc...?) Otherwise, I'm not sure. I hope this helps you though (even if only a little bit).

It's a Citrix environment, so yeah all enviornments are the same. And the button is only greyed out until the user clicks on the SELECT PRINTER ICON (printer with a wrench)

Select Printer, AFAIK, is not a Crystal icon. This means it is part of the application provided by the vendor. Hence, you should ask the vendor to make the necessary code change or simply enable the direct Print icon withing the Crystal Viewer component.

I believe it is a Crystal icon. It is the same icon displayed in the designer and in CR viewer with other apps

Are you saying you see two icons: one that looks like a printer and one that looks like a "printer with a wrench" inside Crystal reports???

Can you double-check? I've never seen anything like that and there is no attribute in the object model to enable such a toolbar icon. Perhaps something is wrong with my vision...)

Yes....gosh I wish I could send a screen shot.

Sounds like the start of a great twilight zone episode.

Please e-mail a screen shot to: ixm7@MilletSoftware.com

It's probably not a VB app. My first guess would be Delphi, which seems to have many more run time options than VB as far as the CRViewer goes.

The vendor probably either disabled the print icon by mistake (not likely), or they were trying to avoid some errors by forcing you to pick a printer first.

In any case, it doesn't look like you're going to get it solved without going through them.

Please send me one as well!

P.S. I looked for that icon in docs, the ActiveX viewer, even the ActiveX viewer properties and didn't see anything. :p

Well, that is one weird pic! I must say I've never seen that before (or any references to it), but it looks like it "belongs" there. I wonder if Dave (vidru) is right. That's just weird...

This can be caused when there is no printer installed on the machine on which the report was designed. To fix it, you need to open the rpt file in Crystal on a machine that has a printed installed and resave the file.

Cydamac -- "CAN BE" is the key phrase in your post. Thanks though.

Well, I must confirm the button is indeed there in the screenshot I received.

Regardless of where this strange apparition is coming from, the next step should be to contact the vendor of the aplication itself since I'm not aware of any setting (e.g., registry entry) related to this that you can tweak yourself.
