I have a phone that is very tempermental. Sometimes the phone is completely dead and other times it works just fine. It used to work all the time, and nothing has been changed either internally or externally. I'm kind of puzzled and have been unable to find any solutions thus far. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this phone to act up?

Bad phone.
Bad Line Cord.
Bad Punch Downs on Demarc.
Bad Cable to BCM.

I would change the phone first, with a known working phone.

Unfortunately I have replaced the line and the phone both, both with no results.

I don't understand how this phone could work for so long, then decide to act up.

As I sometimes tell customers "Things dont last forever

Between the Switch and the phone is alot of cable.also have you tried changing the port.?

I am not sure how to change the port. Would you mind telling me where I could find out how to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Somewhere in your phone room, there is a block with a cable punched down on it from the BCM Digital Line card. on that block you should have a cable on it coming from the phone. If you can't get this far, then I'm going to say something I don't normally say. I think you need a Vendor to help you.

change your port to a different DN and then do a swap on the DN from old to new!
