I have a customer with a BCM50 Rel 1.0. The Phone system has stopped working. All phones are flashing like they are booting up. He said that every few months the BCM would lock up and he would unplug it. It would come back to life. The last time he did it it never came back. The power LED is solid green and the status LED is solid yellow. Sometimes both LEDs would go solid yellow then flash before going back to power solid green and status solid yellow. Connected to the OAM port but DHCP wouldn't work. Tried giving myself a static ip but still coundn't connect with element mgr. Is it safe to say the the hard drive took a dump?

I'd say yes. It probably wasn't patched and the constant reboots, finally took their toll.

Adversity is Opportunity

I second that opinion, had the same issue before on a BCM50 R1, replaced the hard drive and problem solved.

Sounds like I need to replace the hard drive. Is there any way to get the system ID from the cabinet? Or will need to install the hard drive and let it boot to check the sys ID. I want to check if the BCM is registered with Nortel for key code retrival. Thanks for the help!

Yeah...when problems like that start, u should get in there early and try loading s/w patches to bring it up to date. Rebooting a system constantly is only a bandaid fix and eventually takes a toll.

Yes!
Replace your system more than likley the hard drive is faulty???
The hard drive has failed or corrupted.

You can replace the hard drive with a recovered one from another system but make sure you have done a factory reset on this old recovered one first.
Simply install the hard drive and wait for the normal setup as if was newly installed.
The system MAC id from the your system is uploaded
THEN DO A RESTORE FROM YOUR BACKUP IF YOU HAVE ONE.
If not then retrive the key code file for your original system and apply it.
Program from scratch again.

Found the system ID on te botton of the chassis. Retrived the keycodes from Nortel. Will install the hard drive and program and do a back up! Thanks for all your help!
