Dead Air on Conference Calls (internal or external)

Hello Everyone,

First of all I would like to thank everyone here who post answers to all the questions. Wouldn't know what to do without you all!

I have, what I am finding out to be, an odd problem. A user on a 4406D+ calls an external number, talks for a moment, then hits Conference. Then the user calls a second external number, talks for a moment, and then hits Conference again. The phone now displays Conf 100. Very simple. Only one problem; None of the parties can hear or be heard by anyone else, and after about 10 seconds, the external calls are dropped.

If I do the same process, but conferencing in another internal 4406 and only one external line, there is still only dead air, but the calls are never dropped (maybe because there are now 2 internal sets on the call?).

This is a IPO 406v2 running 3.2 with 10 POTS trunks connected to an IP400 Analog Trunk Module.

Everything else seems to be functioning properly.

Please help!

Thanks,

Cesar

Update!

It turns out that there is no audio whatsoever on internal conferences between digital sets either. Everything seems to be fine, the displays show the right stuff (Conf 100) and adding or dropping users works, but no audio.

Is my 406v2 broken?

Any ideas on how to proceed? Could it be the VCM card? Or some other discreet component?

Any troubleshooting advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

what rel 3.2? there were some pretty dodgy versions.

aldo - depending on pcs version have you considered rel 5?

It is 3.2(67). I have considered 4.0 mostly because I no longer receive the tone when doing a hands-free intercom connection, which I know is a bug. I have not considered 5.0 yet.

Not on-site, so I cant tell what pcs version. Is there a remote way to tell?

Thanks,

Cesar

Don't bother, I can almost guarantee that it is the conference chip on the 406 that died. It has happened three times to me. No repair other than replacing the 406.

Wow! Conference chip? Talk about discreet components.

Here are the first few lines from monitor, even though I would tend to agree with Kevin that it is a hardware issue, mostly because I am running the exact same hardware/firmware configuration at another site and conferences and everything else are fully functional (except for the hands-off intercom beep on connect, but they don't use it anyways).

I am posting these monitor lines because it does not look right. The unit keeps looping on the download error. I just power cycled the switch immediately before capturing this. I think this 406 is really mad:

...and so on.

I think I need a new 406 ASAP!

Thanks.

before I condemm that 406, I'd remove the modem card (and VCM)..

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I think I know what is going on with the modem firmware.

This site had a 403 with 2 ATM 4-port analog trunk cards. I swapped it out for the 406v2 with an IP400 26-port analog trunk module. Once I installed the firmware on the 406, to preserve all of the user configuration, I opened the 403 configuration in the 406 Manager, configured lines in 10 of the 16 ports on the analog module, and then pushed up the configuration. Everything functioned properly after that (except for conferencing of course).

I notice now that the original 8 analog trunks that were configured in the 403 are still in the 406 configuration, and the first one of these trunks has the Modem Enable checkbox (unchecked). I suspect that the system is attempting to load the modem firmware onto a non-existent ATM 4-port analog trunk module that is still in the 403 sitting on a shelf.

Is there any way to clear this? Apparently deleting these lines from the configuration does not help.

Thanks.

once a config is really hosed you have only one real option, reprogram from scratch.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news though
you could try opening the old 403 config, remove the lines and upload it to the 406 then you would not have any lines and it would recreate them when you upload it.
