de-selecting locked cells in protection option

Hello,
I have this spreadsheet and i want to protect certain ranges of cells and the others I want to un protect. But everytine I go to Tools>protection and I uncheck the locked cells the unlocked cells gets uncheck as well. This only happens to a certain spreadsheet. I hope that I am clear. Ca anyone tell me why that is?

First, select the cells that you want the user to be able to change and Format > Cells. Go to Protection tab and uncheck Locked.

Next, Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet
