Hi all,
Anyone have any experience configuring DDS with Networker 6.1.1 windows environment? We have a W2K cluster server, using one node as a storage node and a STK L180 tape library with 9840 fiber drives on our SAN along with our disk storage. We want to configure both nodes as storage nodes and share the L180 via DDS to optimize our SAN data backups. I'm not sure how we need to set this up. Right now the robot arm is direct scsi to the one node, so I know I have to do the jbconfig from that node. Do I need to load the tape drivers on both nodes and zone the SAN so that both nodes see the tapes? Any help is appreciated.
Sharon

I'm running W2K cluster service on our SAN as well. I had to zone the 2 servers (both set up as storage nodes) with the Networker server as well as the autochanger. I ran jbconfig on both storage nodes and have the tape drivers installed. It recognized the tape drives (4 AIT3's in a Gator 12000). That's about as far as I've gotten. I'm now reading the documents on how to configure the GEMS smartmedia software, and it's been anything but pleasureable so far.

We aren't going to use SmartMedia, just the DDS option. Do I still need to do jbconfig on both nodes? not sure how I could, thought only 1 server could own the robot arm.
(We don't have networker set up as a cluster resource)

You must confid the DDS with 'jbconfig' in the server that can see the rebort arm.when you congfig DDS,it will prompt which host owen the driver. But you must confirm the physic drivers that will be shared is same.
Hope this help

Great, thanks alot. Please email to sharon.obrien@unisys.com

If you are in a single data zone, you don't need to zone your switch, unless you need to do it for storage. Run jbconfig on both the server and the storage node. The first one you do jbconfig on will control the robot. When you run jbconfig, just follow the prompts, adding the host and devices as required. Each host will have a device path and you will see those in your gui. I have done this a few times in a WINNT/2000 environment and not had any problems.

After our ATL P3000 FC230 fiber conversion..The basic issues are tapes being marked as FULL after getting the Legato generated error messages. At one point we could only write about 128mb to tape..to the latest 1gb per tape before media full occurs. Understand the environment "works" but randomly fails over time... end result Legato sees no available media to write to available...
thanks,
