Quick question from a telecoms guy. ive been asked to upgrade a pavilion dv1000 notebook which takes PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMM's. Would PC2700 DDR2 ram be compatible or does it have to be the original DDR?

umm,it IS supposed to do that, right??

It has to be DDR, they look similar but one type won't fit in the other type's slot. See this Wikipedia page for more info.

SODIMM PC2100, SODIMM PC2700, SODIMM PC3200 are all original DDR (yours falls into this catagory)you could call these DDR1 now that 2&3 are released but they were originally known just as DDR

SODIMM PC2 4200, PC2 5300, PC2 6400 are all DDR2 and are different to the type you require.

You can only upgrade with DDR not DDR2 and as your present ram is SODIMM 2700 you need to use the same or higher so SODIMM 2700 or 3200 (DDR)
The keyways are different from DDR to DDR2 so later modules simply won't fit.
